Days Gone Director Jeff Ross on Bend Studio, Past, Present, and Future

An Exclusive Interview on Sacred Symbols Podcast

In a recent episode of the Sacred Symbols podcast, former Days Gone director Jeff Ross sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss his time at Bend Studio, the development of Days Gone, and his plans for the future.

Days Gone: A Unique Vision

Ross revealed that the original pitch for Days Gone was "The Walking Dead meets Sons of Anarchy," a combination that set the game apart from other zombie apocalypse titles. He also spoke about the challenges of creating a game with such a large open world and a unique gameplay loop.

Departure from Bend Studio

In December 2020, Ross and fellow Days Gone director John Garvin announced their departure from Bend Studio. Ross explained that they felt it was time for a change and that they were excited to explore new opportunities.

Days Gone's Sales Performance

Despite critical acclaim, Days Gone's sales performance has been a topic of discussion. Ross stated that the game outsold Ghost of Tsushima, but that it fell short of Sony's expectations. He attributed this to several factors, including the game's technical issues at launch.

Future Plans

As for the future, Ross announced that he has formed a new game development studio called Gunfire Games. While he declined to share specific details about his upcoming projects, Ross expressed his excitement about working on a new IP.
