Cupra Adds Tiguan Muscle and Q3 Elegance to New Plug-in Hybrid
Volkswagen's performance brand Cupra has launched its first plug-in hybrid, the Terramar, which combines the ruggedness of the Volkswagen Tiguan with the sleek styling of the Audi Q3.
The Terramar is powered by a 1.4-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, which combine to produce 245 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This gives the Terramar a 0-60 mph time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.
The Terramar's electric-only range is 30 miles, which is enough for most daily commutes. The car can be plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet or a faster 240-volt charger. The battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours using the 240-volt charger.
The Terramar comes standard with a host of features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-speaker Beats audio system. Available options include 20-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control.
The Terramar is priced from €32,500 (about $35,000) in Europe. It is expected to go on sale in the United States in 2024.
