Traffic at a standstill as M9 shut at Stirling

Emergency services on scene after three-vehicle smash

Motorists face long delays after major route closed in both directions

All traffic has stopped on the M9 motorway after a three-vehicle smash near Stirling.

Emergency services are on the scene after the crash, which happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine.

The road has been closed in both directions while police investigate the incident.

One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, while two others have suffered minor injuries.

Tailbacks are building up in the area, with drivers being advised to avoid the area if possible.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a three-vehicle road crash on the M9 southbound, between junctions eight and nine, at around 12.15pm today.

“Emergency services attended and one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Two other people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

“The road is currently closed in both directions while police investigate the incident.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”
